dir.: Anna Schwingenschuh & Till Steinmetz | contact The original idea for "laien" was to create a film in a democratic progress, involving amateur actors which developed the plot from their own stories.
we did an intensive casting to chose from the people that responded to our ads, flyers and emails and we chose 5 of them. the tiresome process of the "script" development started. as challenging as it might sound to develop a script as a democratic process, working on one plot with seven people is almost impossible. the result was an outline of the events that should occur, still without dialogs as everything was supposed to be improvised. the whole process of script development and the rehearsals where shot and where supposed to be weaved into the final edit of the film itself. at the end there was a disappointing 70 minutes rough cut, strictly following the scipt outline. this was done shortly before i went to cuba. when i came back six months later, one of our harddisks had died and the work on the next projects started so the project was put on the shelf. still this film is not finished and it is quite hard to imagine to get into the >30 hrs of material again but i am pretty sure that i will continue working at this film sometime. |
